I believe in establishing a firm technical foundation early. I explain cello technique in an easy to understand manner, breaking down all the components and explaining their functions(s) and how they fit into the whole process of playing. I understand my students want to enjoy and have fun playing the cello so I work hard not to get bogged down on any one problem. I keep the music flowing and allow the student to pass through musical pieces relatively quickly.
